INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GOVERNANCE AND ADVISORY
Today's converging information technologies collaboratively managed for attaining University-wide goals and objectives generate issues with few clearly defined boundaries.
In order to effectively address such issues and obtain adequate input, review, oversight and coordination, a broad based knowledgeable and representative governance and advisory structure is required.
IT governance is an orderly process by which information technologies, policies and procedures are identified, selected and integrated into or removed from the University's information technology infrastructure consistent with the University's strategic plan. The foundation upon which IT governance takes place at Boise State University is COBIT compliant.
Sound IT Governance is dependent upon a sound and broad based advisory structure. Committees, groups, roundtables or other such associations focus special interests; initiate special studies; propose, examine, and evaluate technology alternatives and related policies; make program recommendations; and/or, actively participate in information technology strategic planning.
An effective IT Governance and Advisory Model promotes a free exchange of information between a broad based knowledgeable and representative advisory structure and an active visionary governing body. This model of vision and collaborative assessment provides an opportunity to gather facts, share perspectives and create consensus.
