Create an Assessment

Summary

In this article you will learn how to Create an Assessment in Bb.

Before creating an Assessment, the Instructor should consider what type of knowledge is being tested and select question types tailored to the subject matter. For example, on an English test a series of Short Answer questions may be the best format, while for a Science test a mix of Multiple Choice, Matching and Fill in the Blank questions would better test Student’s knowledge. It is also helpful to consider flexibility when scoring questions. Will partial credit be acceptable for some or all questions? Are some questions very difficult and may count as extra credit? Note that questions on the Test Canvas may be reorganized or re-arranged – so the order in which questions are added is not too important.

You can create test questions following the instructions below.

Procedure

  • Click Course Tools from the Control Panel
  • Click Tests, Surveys, and Pools
  • Select Tests

    • This returns you to the Test Canvas
    • Continue adding questions to your Test or Select Reuse questions to create a Question set, Random Block or find Questions from an existing pool or test
      • Create Question Sets
        • Instructors can create a Question Set by searching and selecting questions, determining the number of points per question and then choosing the number of questions to display to the user. If the number of questions to be displayed is less than the list of questions (example:3 out of 50), then the questions are randomly distributed so that each user may be viewing a different set of three questions. The Instructor can choose to display the same questions to all users by selecting all the questions listed
        • Unlike Random Blocks you can select questions from existing Pools and Tests
      • Create Random Block
        • A Random Block is a group of questions retrieved from a Question Pool. Questions are randomly retrieved from the selected Question Pool based on the question type and the number of questions available in the selected pool
        • Create a Random Block by selecting a pool, the question types to include (for example true/false and matching), enter the number of points per question, and the number of questions to display to the user. If the number of questions to be displayed is less than the resulting list of questions (example: 3 out of 50), then the questions are randomly distributed so that each user may receive a different set of three questions on the test. When done, click Submit to create the Random Block on your Test Canvas. You can now set the number of questions to display and points per question for your assessment
      • Find Question
        • When using the Find Questions page, Instructors can choose to Copy a Question from an existing test to a new test, or Link to the original question in the new test. The difference is that if a linked question is changed, those changes are reflected everywhere a link to that question occurs. Questions that are linked display an icon that indicates they are used in other tests. Alternatively, when the question is copied, changes made to one instance of the question are not reflected in the other instances. Copy is the default selection
          • Note: You can’t change the Link or Copy association to a question once it has been added to your assessment. You must delete then recreate the question
  • Continue to add questions to your assessment until you have achieved the desired total points and number of questions
  • Select OK. This will return you to Tests, Surveys, and Pools. You must now deploy or make the test available to your students
