Brad came to Boise State in 2010 as a student to pursue a second degree in Information Technology after a successful thirty-year career in the restaurant industry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Linfield College. As a student employee, he helped with the technology transition when the new Micron Business and Economics building was opened. In 2013, Brad was instrumental in the launching of the Boise State Online MBA program as the fulltime administrator and support specialist of the Canvas learning management system. Brad has a keen interest in using technology as a tool to enhance the educational experience. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, practicing yoga, riding his bike, being walked by his dog, and traveling.
Drew has been an active part of the evolution of Blackboard support, training and management along with promoting the use of other learning technologies here at Boise State since November 2008. Drew spent 20 years working to reduce and predict consumer warranty costs for printing products in the fast-paced world of consumer electronics. Drew obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in conjunction with his time on submarines in the US Navy and refueling airplanes at the Boise airport. In his free time, Drew can be found enjoying the outdoors in numerous activities like shotgun sports, rafting, hiking, camping, gardening, golf, etc. with his wife, golden retriever, extended family and friends.
Jonathan joined the LTS team in early 2017. He came to Boise State from Clemson University where he oversaw academic technology administration and instructional media support as the Director of Texts and Technologies. His interest in technology-enhanced teaching and learning arose naturally in his work as a college-level writing instructor, and his professional background as a graphic designer and technical writer affords him expertise in the creation and delivery of digital media. He is a Ph.D. Candidate in Learning Sciences, and his research interests include multimodal composition pedagogy, knowledge building environments, design-based research, and open educational resources (OER). Jonathan is a coffee snob, music nerd, and pop-culture aficionado. He enjoys going on road trips, cooking for others, and working on art projects with his spouse.
Leif Nelson is the Director of Learning Technology Solutions. Leif has over a decade of experience in learning technology leadership and development, instructional design, IT management, and online teaching. Prior to coming to Boise State, Leif served in various roles for the University of Wisconsin System and the Quality Matters organization. Leif has a Bachelor’s Degree in English, a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, and he is currently completing his Doctorate in Educational Technology from Boise State University, conducting research that applies a critical theoretical lens to emerging fields of study in higher education. He has contributed to such publications as Hybrid Pedagogy and Educause Review.
Maria Shimel started working with Learning Technologies Solutions in December of 2016. She comes to us after managing Boise State University’s Online Testing Center for four years and is no stranger to Blackboard, Educational Technology, and enjoys working with instructors. Maria is enthusiastic about developing excellent customer service and training resources for both Boise State Students and Faculty. Maria graduated from Boise State University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration as well as received the Outstanding Graduate Award from the Management Department. When away from work (and even at work) Maria enjoys planting and maintaining a small jungle of houseplants and is always happy to trade plant cuttings with other green-thumbs around campus!
Grace Tuttle joined LTS in January of 2016. She has served in the United States Air Force, Idaho State Legislature, Whitworth University and Idaho Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Computer Information Systems from Park University, Masters of Public Administration from University of Oklahoma, and Education Specialist, Adult Organizational Learning and Leadership from University of Idaho. She is a doctoral student in Instructional Design and Technology at Idaho State University. She teaches EDTECH 202 and is a mentor at the First Forward Success Program at Boise State University. She loves running, biking, group exercises, cooking, traveling, and the great outdoors. She recently completed a 185-mile self-supported bicycle tour of the Couer d’Alene Trails with her husband.
Jack began his career at Boise State as an instructor in the English department. In 1990 he volunteered to assist with the installation of 3 computer labs in the Liberal Arts building. He has had a wide variety of jobs in IT since then, one of which involved the installation of the lecture capture in 50 classrooms in the summers of 2012 and 2013. He has a B.S. in Education and a M.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. In his spare time, he rides his bike up very steep hills, studies Italian, putters in his garden, reads, and watches TV with his wife.
Nick joined LTS in April 2017. He came to Boise State after serving as an Instructional Technologist for Washington State University’s Pullman campus and later at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Nick holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and is currently pursuing his M.Ed. in Instructional Design & Technology. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring Idaho with his girlfriend and two mutts, playing golf, tennis, and basketball, collecting obscure vinyl records, attempting DIY furniture building projects, and being one of the Denver Broncos’ most passionate armchair quarterbacks.
