Blackboard Upgrade Information

On Saturday, May 13th from 12 AM to 12 PM, Blackboard is being upgraded to add stability, security, performance improvements and new features.  Below you will find summaries of how the upgrade affects you and get answers to frequently asked questions about the upgrade.

Updated Features for Students and Faculty

  • Send email reminders
    • Instructors can send email reminders from Grade Center columns to Students and members of groups who have missing coursework.
    • Students receive a system-generated email that lists the course, coursework, and the due date if set.

  • Drag and Drop files
    • When Instructors create content items, assignments, and web links, they can drag and drop files from their computer to the “hot spot” in the Attach Files area.
    • Students can also drag and drop files when they submit assignments.  This feature is not available in all areas of Blackboard where you can attach files, it is also Internet Browser dependent.

  • Submission Receipts
    • Students will receive a submission receipt banner notification at the top of the page for each successfully submitted group or individual assignment.
    • Instructors can retrieve submission receipt history information via the Student Receipts report in the Full Grade Center.

  • Instructors see fewer “Needs Grading” items for multiple attempt assessments.  Attempts that won’t calculate towards the assessment grade are not displayed.
    • No change for Students
  • Improved behavior for Self and Peer Review – Non-participants during the submission period are excluded from the evaluation process.
    • No change for Students

Should I wait to start working on my Summer/Fall course?


No way!  If you want to get a jump start on your Summer/Fall course, go ahead.  All processes remain the same for requesting your site with LMS Middleware and any previous course site work done was moved into the new system without issue.
