Create or Add a Syllabus

Summary

A syllabus is a useful tool for a teacher to use to show their class the overall goal of the course along with things like major project do dates, office hours, and class policies. This page shows how to add your syllabus.

Instructors can link to an existing document that will serve as a syllabus, attach a file
from a local computer, or link to a file. Creating a new syllabus using the Syllabus
Builder tool allows Instructors to use a template to pre-build lessons as needed, or
build lessons one at a time.

Note: A syllabus can be added to any Content Area, but adding the course syllabus
its own Content Area on the Course Menu gives users easy access to it.

  • Above the course menu on the left side of the screen click on the plus sign to create a new Content area for the Syllabus
  • In the opened box type the content name, Syllabus
  • Check the box to make the content available to your users
  • Click Submit
  •  You should now see a new course menu content item titled Syllabus. The small
icon next to your new content area indicates the link has no content. You can hover
above the icon to display this
  • Click on your new content area Syllabus
  • Under the build content menu click Syllabus
  • Enter the name of your Syllabus
  • Select Use Existing File
    • Note: Choose Create New Syllabus to use the Syllabus Builder tool. Creating a new
syllabus using the Syllabus Builder tool allows Instructors to use a customizable
template to pre-build lessons as needed, or build lessons one at a time
  •  Click on Browse for Local File
  • Select your Syllabus file
  • Enter or cut and paste your Syllabus text in the Text box and you can attach your syllabus for easy printing
  • For “Track Number of Views” select Yes to generate usage reports for the item
  • Select Date and Time restrictions if applicable
  • Click Submit. A success screen after clicking Submit, showing your Syllabus text and attached
file should show. Students can now quickly find and view your Syllabus by selecting Syllabus in
    the course menu
