Safe Assignment Errors

Summary

This document tells you what to do when you get safe assignment errors.
This issue can be displayed various ways:
  • Not logged in
  • Permissions error
  • Unable to locate file

The most common fix is to change your Java permissions.

On a PC

  • Click start menu
  • Click all programs
  • Choose java
  • Click configure java
  • Click Security tab
  • Click Edit Site List
  • Click Add
  • Type https://blackboard.boisestate.edu
  • Click add
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Restart Boise State University Blackboard application

On a MAC

  • Click System preferences
  • Choose java
  • Click Security tab
  • Click Edit Site List
  • Click Add
  • Type https://blackboard.boisestate.edu
  • Click add
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
  • Restart Boise State University Blackboard application

The other fix for the instructor, whenever Safe Assign is not playing nice is:

  • In your Blackboard course site click course tools
  • Click SafeAssign
  • Click SafeAssignments
  • Click Synchronize this course top right

Please Note:  Safe Assign must be set up for an Assignment BEFORE students submit files.  If the Safe Assign option is checked on an Assignment after students have submitted their files, Safe Assign will not process them.  The files will look like this indefinitely (click on image to open a new window and see larger view):
