Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register a device that does not have a web interface (e.g., game console, Apple TV, etc.)?

Yes, you can register devices that do not have a web interface. Use the device registration link and log in using your Boise State username and password.

You will need your device’s MAC address for registration. If you don’t know the MAC address, please contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357 or email helpdesk@boisestate.edu for assistance.

Why is this change being made?

The primary reason for this change it to improve security on the Bronco-Guest network. By asking you to register, we have the ability to notify you if we see that your device is infected. It helps keep our network safe!

Registering your device also complies with a recent directive from the Idaho State Cybersecurity Task Force.

What other wireless options do I have?

eduroam is the University’s secure, encrypted wireless network intended for regular use by students, faculty and staff. If you aren’t a guest on campus, you should use eduroam. You will log in once, using your Boise State username and password. You will not have to authenticate again until you change your password.

If I’m registering my device, does that mean Bronco-Guest is secure?

Registration is different from authentication. You won’t need to log in or be asked to enter any passwords to access Bronco-Guest, but you will need to agree to terms and conditions, provide a valid email address, and verify that email in order to use the wireless network. Bronco-Guest still remains an unrestricted and unsecure network.

For secure wireless access, Boise State’s students, faculty and staff should use the Boise State eduroam network.

I entered my email address, but didn’t receive an email. What do I do?

If you entered your email address and haven’t received an email, check your spam folder. If you still didn’t receive an email, please contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357, or email helpdesk@boisestate.edu.

What happens if I don’t click the link to verify my email?

If you don’t verify your email address, your access will be terminated after 30 minutes. You will need to repeat the connection and email verification process to continue.

How long does my Bronco-Guest registration last?

Successful registration gives you access for seven days. After that time, you will need to re-register in order to use Bronco-Guest.

I’m trying to use eduroam, but my device keeps defaulting to Bronco-Guest. How can I change that?

The best way to force your device to connect to eduroam is by telling it to “forget” the Bronco-Guest network. Please refer to the instructions for your specific device on how to forget a network, or contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357 or helpdesk@boisestate.edu for assistance.
