Recent Change to the Bronco-Guest Network
On May 17, the Office of Information Technology changed the Bronco-Guest wireless network to require device registration by providing a valid email address, and verifying that email address, in order to use Bronco-Guest.
After verification, access to Bronco-Guest is available for seven days, and requires re-registration to continue use.
How to Connect to Bronco-Guest
To connect, please do the following:
- Turn on your device’s wireless network function and connect to a Bronco-Guest wireless access point.
Windows 7 & 8: Click on the Wireless Network Connection icon in the System Tray at lower-right of your computer desktop, then left-click on the Bronco-Guest network. Click the Connect button.
Mac: Click the AirPort (wireless) icon at top-right on the screen and choose Bronco-Guest from the list of available wireless networks.
Smartphones/Tablets: Open your device’s wireless network settings and choose Bronco-Guest from the list of available wireless networks.
- When presented with the registration screen, read and accept the terms of the Acceptable Usage Statement.
- Enter a valid email address and select Continue.
- To complete the registration, open your email and click on the verification link.
Once you verify your email address, your registration will be valid for 7 days. After that time, you will need to re-register. If you do not verify your email address, your wireless access will be terminated after 30 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can register devices that do not have a web interface. Use the device registration link and log in using your Boise State username and password.
You will need your device’s MAC address for registration. If you don’t know the MAC address, please contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
The primary reason for this change it to improve security on the Bronco-Guest network. By asking you to register, we have the ability to notify you if we see that your device is infected. It helps keep our network safe!
Registering your device also complies with a recent directive from the Idaho State Cybersecurity Task Force.
eduroam is the University’s secure, encrypted wireless network intended for regular use by students, faculty and staff. If you aren’t a guest on campus, you should use eduroam. You will log in once, using your Boise State username and password. You will not have to authenticate again until you change your password.

Registration is different from authentication. You won’t need to log in or be asked to enter any passwords to access Bronco-Guest, but you will need to agree to terms and conditions, provide a valid email address, and verify that email in order to use the wireless network. Bronco-Guest still remains an unrestricted and unsecure network.
For secure wireless access, Boise State’s students, faculty and staff should use the Boise State eduroam network.
If you entered your email address and haven’t received an email, check your spam folder. If you still didn’t receive an email, please contact the Help Desk at (208) 426-4357, or email email@example.com.
If you don’t verify your email address, your access will be terminated after 30 minutes. You will need to repeat the connection and email verification process to continue.
