Print from Your Laptop

Laptop users must be logged into the eduroam wireless network via their Boise State username & password (use @boisestate.edu after your username, not u.boisestate.edu).

Printing from your laptop will be similar to printing in BroncoPrint-equipped computer labs. When ready to print, select “BroncoPrint” from your list of available printers, and then enter your Boise State username, and a name for the print job. The system will then notify you of the print job’s cost, and prompt for approval or cancellation.

Once the job is approved, it will remain in the system for up to two hours. If the job is not printed within two hours, it will be purged from the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

The system keeps track of the quantity of printing you use over the course of a semester.

When you print from an Office of Information Technology managed lab or classroom computer, you will see a small balloon notification at the bottom-right of the screen. It will give information on the size and cost of the print job. No money is debited from your account until you release the job (when the document actually prints).

To release the job, swipe your Boise State student ID card or use your Boise State username and password at the printer.

When you use BroncoPrint from your laptop to print, you will be prompted to enter your Boise State username and a document title or description. The system then displays the number of pages to be printed, the cost per page for the selected printer and the total cost for the print job. You may elect to continue, or cancel the job.

Next, swipe your Boise State student ID card at a touch screen monitor next to the printer. The screen displays the print job(s) to be printed, then displays your remaining balance, in addition to the cost of the jobs.

All print jobs go to a central queue and can be released at any print release station on campus.

Q: HOW DO I SELECT BLACK AND WHITE PRINTING OR COLOR PRINTING?

To print in black and white, select the BlackAndWhite on PEARLCREEK2 option from the Printer dropdown list.

To print in color, select the Color on PEARLCREEK2 option from the Printer dropdown list.

BroncoPrint printer choices

Black and white and color print jobs can be released at any BroncoPrint printer.

Q: HOW MANY FREE PAGES DOES A STUDENT GET PER SEMESTER?

All undergraduate and graduate students registered for academic credit (without fee waivers) will receive a printing balance of $15 per semester, which equates to about 214 pages/semester at $ .07/page.

Students using duplex printing (front and back printing) can print two pages for $.10, allowing for up to 300 printed pages per semester.

You can check your BroncoPrint balance on your Bronco Card at any time through myBoiseState. Select the My Account tab in your Student View.

Q: CAN I GET A REFUND FOR MY UNUSED QUOTA?

While your free printing quota is represented in the BroncoPrint system as a monetary value, it really represents a maximum service level of printing resources. The quota was calculated based upon average printing usage, which takes into account that some students print more and some print less. Consequently, no refunds will be given for unused printing quota at the end of a semester, nor will the unused portion of a quota be forwarded to a future semester.

Q: WHAT ABOUT MY PRIVACY?

You must swipe your ID card at the Print Release Station to see any of the print jobs in the system. Once you swipe your card, you will see only those jobs you sent to the system. You will not be able to see the jobs of other users, nor will you be able to print the jobs of other users.

Q: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PRINT?

Black & White:

  • Simplex (single sided): $0.07 to print B&W on a single side of paper
  • Duplex (double sided): $0.10 to print B&W on both sides of paper ($0.05 per single side when printing both sides)

Color:

  • Simplex (single sided) $0.25 to print color on a single side of paper
  • Duplex (double sided): $0.50 to print color on both sides of paper

Q: WHAT IF I EXCEED MY QUOTA OF FREE PRINTING?

A student exceeding quota during the semester will have to pay for the amount of printing that exceeds the quota, at the rate appropriate for the printer being used. The vast majority of students do not have this problem.

Q: WHAT IF I LOSE MY CARD?

For printing purposes, students are no longer required to have a card. You can print and release jobs by using your Boise State username and password at the release station.

Q: WHO CAN USE THE BRONCOPRINT SYSTEM?

Students who are currently registered for the current semester with at least one academic credit may use the BroncoPrint system.

Students who meet this criteria will be given a quota of free printing. Students who do not meet this criteria are not eligible to use BroncoPrint system and will not be given a free quota of printing. The only exception to this is for patrons of the Albertsons Library at Boise State, where the general public is welcome.

Members of the general public may purchase a separate card from a vending machine to use for printing while in the Library.

Q: IS LARGE FORMAT PRINTING AVAILABLE?

A plotter is available in the Library’s MakerLab for large format printing. Visit the MakerLab website for location and availability information.

Q: WHO CAN I CONTACT TO OFFER FEEDBACK OR FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION?

If you have any questions not answered here, or if you would like additional information, contact the Help Desk @ the Zone at helpdesk@boisestate.edu or call (208) 426-4357.
